A Century of York Incinerators

You’ll have seen the giant incinerator at Allerton Park. It was said to be North Yorkshire’s answer to waste disposal for the next 25 years. Generating enough electricity to power 60,000 houses.

But did you know York already had an incinerator, over a century ago? Similar to Allerton Park, the remains can be seen on Foss Islands Road where all that still stands is the chimney.
